The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan Ministry of Lands and Environment is pleased to announce a 2024 Emergency Preparedness Kit giveaway! These kits are part of an MN–S Emergency Management Program that provides education, awareness, and resources to Métis citizens, to enable them to be better prepared when natural disasters or climate-related emergencies arise, such as wildfires, flooding, or severe storms. A total of 500 emergency preparedness kits are available.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this giveaway, you must be a Métis citizen and reside within the province of Saskatchewan. Kits are restricted to one per household. Applicants must be 18+ years old.

While all citizens are encouraged to apply, there is a limited supply of emergency preparedness kits and prioritization methods will be used to target individuals and families who are more vulnerable to or during emergency situations. This includes remote locations that may have slower emergency response times, households with young children and/or elderly relatives, or those with health or mobility issues.

Emergency Preparedness Kit Contents

The emergency preparedness kits can prepare four people to be self-sufficient for up to 72 hours in emergencies where you may be without power, food, water, or access to a safe evacuation route. Each kit contains supplies to help with nourishment, water, heat, lighting and first aid supplies, including a Pocket Emergency Plan that recipients can fill out with important emergency response phone numbers and any important medical information.

The Emergency Preparedness Kit contains:

• 4x SOS 3600 calorie food bars
• 36x SOS emergency drinking water pouches
• 20x Water purification tablets
• 16x BZK antiseptic wipes
• 4x Pairs hand, foot, and body warmers
• 1x Box of waterproof matches
• 8x Alcohol swabs
• 1x Emergency preparedness guide
• 1x Toilet paper roll
• 1x 10-liter collapsible water container
• 10x N95 face masks
• 4x Emergency Mylar sleeping bags
• 4x Emergency rain ponchos
• 2x Mylar emergency tents
• 1x Pair of nitrile-dipped work gloves
• 1x Safety whistle with lanyard
• 4x 12-hour light sticks
• 3x LED flashlights
• 1x Multi-function knife
• 1x Survival tape
• 1x 40-hour candle
• 1x Solar-powered flashlight/radio
• 4x Packs of bath wipes
• 1x 50ft nylon utility cord / safety rope
• 1x First aid kit

Only those selected to receive a kit will be contacted by MN–S to confirm shipment details or community pick-up dates and times. You can expect to receive your emergency preparedness kit by June 30th, 2024.*
