MN-S Mourns the passing of Ray Smith

Community has lost an educator and leader

July 31, 2019 – Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) President Glen McCallum extended sympathy to the family and community of Ray Smith, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
“A family lost their husband, grandfather, father, brother and nephew, while Métis Nation-Saskatchewan lost a leader, role model and educator” said McCallum. “On behalf of MN-S, we extend our heartfelt prayers to Ray’s family, friends and community. “
I had the fortunate opportunity to know Ray my whole life and from my own experience this is a loss on so many levels. He was part of the fabric of the North. He dedicated his life to ensuring our Northern youth had access to quality education in our communities.”
Earl Cook, Minister of Education for MN-S, said Smith’s impact will last through the many people and students touched by his work.
“The hole left by Mr. Smith’s passing will be felt by many, however we take comfort in his legacy for a strong, educated North and the memories he created with so many,” said Cook.
