Veterans recognized today at ceremonies in Saskatoon, SK, and Duck Lake, SK.
Métis Nation Veterans Lucien (Jim) Boucher and Alice Marie Victoria Samuel (nee Petit) were honoured and recognized today at ceremonies in Saskatoon, SK, and Duck Lake, SK.
The ceremonies included the presentation of a beaded poppy and the presentation of a $20,000 cheque to each of the Veterans for their wartime and post-war experiences. The cheques presented were part of the terms of the $30 million Canada-Métis Nation Métis Veterans Recognition Payment Agreement.
MNC President Chartier, MNC Minister of Veterans Affairs David Chartrand were in attendance and various media outlets observed the ceremonies.
Some of the war time experiences of Veteran Alice Marie Victoria Samuel (nee Petit) have been documented at the Historical Canada Memory Project.
