Media Release – MN-S Reacts to Liberal Cabinet

Media Release

Nov. 20, 2019

As the Liberal cabinet was being announced in Ottawa today, Métis Nation-Saskatchewan President Glen McCallum watched with anticipation.

The two portfolios he was eyeing were Crown-Indigenous Relations and Indigenous Services.

“The MN-S is pleased the Liberal Government has decided to have Carolyn Bennett remain Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister,” said President McCallum. He added, “With Minister Bennett’s continued support of our efforts to be recognized as a independent government, through our MN-S core governance agreement, which has been negotiated with the federal government, great strides have been made, through community engagement, toward reforming the constitution.”

A new face around the table is Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller, someone President McCallum looks forward to working with. The MN-S also wants to congratulate Chrystia Freeland on being named Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, the first in more than a decade. President McCallum looks forward to continued partnerships with the Trudeau government and will work to further strengthen the relationship the two have forged.
