MÉTIS NATION–SASKATCHEWAN STATEMENT ON UNAUTHORIZED USE OF MN–S RESOURCES IN PROTEST CONVOY

January 24, 2022 — Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Earlier today, the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) was made aware of photos showing the unauthorized use by a regional employee of an MN-S vehicle as part of a protest convoy. The images also show the Métis flag being used as part of this convoy. The views expressed in this protest in no way reflect those of the MN–S. Any misuse of MN–S resources for personal political purposes will not be tolerated in our Nation.

“I am beyond disappointed and angered by the actions of the individuals involved in this convoy,” said MN–S President Glen McCallum. “The spread of vaccine disinformation and hostility is harmful to our Nation and our people. We know our Nation is better than this, and it is unacceptable that actions like these continue to endanger our communities and undermine the many sacrifices we have made to keep safe during the pandemic.”

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, MN–S has continually put the health and safety of its citizens first. Through initiatives such as the MN–S vaccine draw and emergency relief programs, we have worked to make COVID-19 supports available to citizens. As we continue the fight against COVID-19, MN–S unequivocally condemns any activities that seek to put our collective health and safety in jeopardy.

Getting vaccinated is an essential measure in protecting our youth, Elders and Nation against COVID-19. MN–S continues to urge those who have not been immunized to go and get vaccinated. Whether it is your first, second or third shot, it is never too late to do the right thing. And we will never stop supporting those who are working together to eradicate COVID-19 and keep our citizens healthy.

MN–S will be conducting a thorough investigation into this incident and is committed to making sure that those responsible are held accountable.
