February 24, 2023 – A meaningful next step was taken by the Government of Canada and Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) today, moving Métis citizens closer to self-determination.

The original Métis Government Recognition and Self Government Agreement, signed by the two parties in 2019 has been updated to include an implementation process.

Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller, MN–S President Glen McCallum, and MN–S Vice President Michelle LeClair signed the Self-Government Recognition and Implementation Agreement in Edmonton, AB today.

While today’s signing is a significant and necessary step toward self-determination, MN–S remains focused on bolstering this agreement and laying the path for the negotiation of a final Treaty through federal recognition legislation expected in the coming months.
