Child and Family Services Engagement Sessions

August 31, 2023 – Métis people have the inherent right to self-determination and self-government, including providing Métis-distinct child and family services in our communities. As such, the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) is working to advance the rights of our citizens by growing a government with strong laws based on respect and collaboration.

Over the next two months, a technical team from the MN–S Department of Social Infrastructure will travel to 24 centres throughout Saskatchewan to explore the development and implementation of a Métis-distinct child and family services delivery system. We want to hear your ideas and feedback.

MN–S is committed to meaningful engagement with our citizens and stakeholders and ensuring our citizens’ lived experiences guide our recommendations. These sessions are safe, inclusive, and culturally sensitive spaces open to diverse perspectives.

We want to hear from:

  • Métis people with lived experiences (i.e., parents, family, foster parents, survivors of residential schools and the 60’s scoop);
  • Elders;
  • Women;
  • Youth;
  • 2SLGBTQIA+ individual;
  • Community Leaders;
  • Municipal, Provincial and Federal Government representatives;
  • Existing agencies and community service providers;
  • Child and family services subject matter experts; and
  • Urban and regional Indigenous organizations.

Saskatoon will host a two-day conference focused on exploring and implementing jurisdiction in the area of Child and Family Services through An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis Children, Youth and Families, commonly referred to as Bill C-92. The event will be streamed live to allow engagement from Citizens and stakeholders that are unable to attend in person.

Your input is crucial to MN–S as we continue our ongoing commitment to a healthy, self-sustaining Nation rooted in Métis culture, language, values, and community.

Find out when the team will be in your region. Details are here.
