The MN–S Ma Faamii grows with new addition in Prince Albert
May 22, 2024 – Treaty 6 Territory and Homeland of the Métis, Prince Albert, SK – Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) is growing. The ground has been blessed at the future home of the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) Ma Faamii and Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Centre of Excellence in Prince Albert.
The special ceremony marks the start of construction on what will be an ELCC daycare centre, providing citizens in the region with better access to Métis distinct child care services. It will also house a Ma Faamii community hub – a place for Métis citizens to connect with others who will facilitate the process of obtaining supports and programs needed for themselves and their families.
Over the next two years, local partners and Métis-owned sub-contractors will construct the Centre of Excellence that sits on a 26-acre parcel of land in Prince Albert’s northwest corner, close to the Jumpstart Playground and Alfred Jenkins Field House.
Once complete, the MN–S ELCC Centre of Excellence will create 29 full-time and 4 part-time positions, provide training and practicum opportunities for ELCC educators and, through collaboration with the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI), training and skills development prospects will be determined. The Ma Faamii Service Center will create 6 new full-time positions.
The PA property also allows for other building potential. MN–S is currently exploring the options.
WIth a little help from Elders and children, MN–S breaks ground on new Ma Faamii and ELCC Centre of Excellence in Prince Albert, May 2024.
