Historic budget passes at PMC
March 21, 2025 – The Provincial Métis Council (PMC) has passed a historic, balanced 2025-26 budget! MN–S Minister of Finance Marg Friesen said, “This is a strong balanced budget that supports our citizens and the growth of our Métis Nation. It’s the most impactful budget our government has seen to date. I am grateful for the support of my PMC colleagues. Citizens were presented with a snapshot of what they can expect, the full picture will become apparent as the year rolls out. Budget 2025-2026, reflects our fiscal capacity, our responsibility to you as citizens and builds on the work we’ve started.”
This balanced budget is achieved through careful management of expected revenue, supplemented by retained earnings from previous fiscal years. The overarching objective is to efficiently deploy these funds, aligned with funding mandates, to directly benefit citizens.
Budget 2025-26 highlights include:
- Over $70 M direct to citizens
- Post-secondary scholarships, medical and mental health support program grants, First Time Home Buyers grant, home repair and energy efficiency upgrades for citizens, childcare subsidies, youth and family recreational and extracurricular support grants
- Over $80 M in Infrastructure investments
- Including 3 new ELCC centres with total of 270 daycare spaces

- Environmental conservation initiatives
