MOU Between MN-S and U of S
Making sure Métis patients’ voices are heard and the gaps in programs and services are identified, analyzed, documented and disseminated using robust academic methodologies, is the main thrust of a new agreement signed between the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) Ministry of Health and researchers at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S).
The MOU was inked on the 4th of October and effectively brings both parties together to work toward a Métis-specific health and cancer strategy.
The objective of the partnership is to understand the Métis cancer patient’s journey, find out what supports are in place and where the gaps exist, and develop strategic priorities to fill those holes.
One of the first, and most important steps to take toward achieving those ends, is to start to compile a Métis-specific cancer/health care data bank.
That work begins this month (Nov./19) as the MN-S Ministry of Health embarks on a seven-month engagement process to all 12 Métis regions of the province.
