Community approach to homelessness helps Battleford Lighthouse

September 28, 2021 – Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) has partnered with the Battleford Agency Tribal Council (BATC), The City of North Battleford, and the Lighthouse Supported Living to achieve a community response to homelessness.

In March, MN–S stepped in with funding to ensure the doors to the Battleford Lighthouse would remain open through September 2021. Since that time, efforts have been made to find the right partners to commit to work together on finding solutions to homelessness issues in the Battlefords area, including keeping the homeless shelter open beyond October 1, 2021.

BATC is assuming operations at the shelter in North Battleford while the Lighthouse Supported Living evaluates and improves programming, reporting and develops a long-term sustainability plan to ease the risk of closing in the future.

A community impact meeting will be organized to inform the community and fill gaps that may exist during the transitionary period.
